Visual and scenic artist

Versatile, contemporary, intriguing

“I like it rough, impulsive and crude I hope it conveys the narrative or the questions that each figure or subject represents – like folk art with new materials.” Justin Carroll

Generations of Creation

Aberystwyth-born Justin Carroll is an artist living and working in Cardiff. Justin’s artistic routes are inherited from his sculptor grandfather and artist father, both of whom Justin is very proud of. It was not until the death of his father, with whom he had an extremely close bond, that Justin began actively creating his artwork. What is admirable about Justin is that he has taken what was clearly a traumatic time for him and turned it into a positive by making his art. The more you look at Justin’s work, the more you see, there is depth and purpose to every element of his paintings.

Editorials

“We loved Justin’s dark but emotive work, images that highlight his natural energy, an almost fierce relationship with his mediums creating work that is instantly translated from emotion to canvas. Bold brushstrokes and wild creativity mixed with a cacophony of colour providing a distillation of the artists influences, evoking a strong sense of modern life and culture. Justin has been a practicing artist for over twenty years but has rarely exhibited having sold privately throughout the world. However we are about to see much more of this talented artist and we’re excited to follow his continuing journey and artistic development.”

— Lisa Gray - The Pallette Pages.

“it exposes the artists raw emotion….seemingly all of Justin’s work, is a talking point, which makes it more interesting. It’s a world away from one-dimensional.”

— Ingrid Nicholas - Art, Share, Love, Wales.

“Justin captures his love of his native countryside, although any romance is tempered by an awareness of the corrosive effects of consumerism and mischievous humor”

— Neil Cummings - Centre For Visual Arts Cardiff and Habitat.

“My work signifies a need to make order from this mass imagery, whether stored in a sketch book or within my memory by creating large scale, multi-media paintings.” Justin Carroll
